Couples & Relationships - Common Symptoms & Experiences
Relationships can be one of our greatest sources of comfort, connection, and support—but when patterns of conflict, distance, or misunderstanding take hold, they can also become a source of significant stress and pain. Couples & Relationship Therapy provides a structured space to better understand these patterns, strengthen emotional connection, and create new ways of engaging with one another. As a specialty private-pay service, this work is able to remain focused on the needs of the relationship itself, allowing us to move beyond symptom management and toward meaningful, lasting change.
frequent arguments or repeating the same conflicts
difficulty communicating without it escalating
resentment or unresolved tension
loss of intimacy or closeness
challenges adjusting to life transitions (parenthood, stress, role changes)

Our Approach to Couples & Relationship Therapy

Understanding the Deeper Roots of Conflict
Rather than focusing only on surface-level arguments, we look at the patterns, stressors, histories, and unmet needs that may be contributing to conflict or disconnection. This helps couples better understand what keeps them stuck and creates a starting point for meaningful change.
Evidenced-Based, Relationship-Focused Care
Our work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and other evidence-based approaches to relationship care. Therapy is tailored to the needs of each couple and may include support with communication, emotional connection, conflict resolution, trust, intimacy, and life transitions.
Rebuilding Connection and Trust
As couples develop greater understanding and new ways of responding to one another, the relationship can begin to feel more steady, supportive, and connected. The goal is to help partners move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and a stronger foundation for navigating challenges together.
What to Expect in Therapy
Step 1: Getting Started

Couples begin with a joint intake assessment followed by an individual meeting with each partner. From there, we come back together with a clearer understanding of both partners and the dynamic between you. Together, we'll identify the patterns contributing to distress and create a clear roadmap for our work together. Most couples sessions are scheduled for 75 minutes to allow adequate time for deeper relationship work.
Step 2: Building Support and Skills

As we gain a deeper understanding of your relationship patterns, we'll begin developing new ways of responding to one another. Therapy focuses on improving communication, strengthening emotional connection, and building practical skills that help partners feel more supported, understood, and connected.
Step 3: Forward with Confidence

By strengthening communication, trust, and understanding, couples are better equipped to navigate life's challenges together. Therapy focuses on creating lasting changes that support a healthier, more resilient relationship.
Common Questions About Our Therapy
Is it too late for us to start therapy?
Not necessarily. Many couples come to therapy feeling stuck, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Even when things feel difficult, there is often still room to better understand each other, shift patterns, and rebuild connections.
How long does couples therapy take?
It depends on your goals and what you’re navigating. Many couples begin to notice shifts within the first several sessions, especially with consistent attendance. The length of therapy varies, but the focus is on creating meaningful and lasting change.
How much does couples therapy cost?
Couples & Relationship Therapy is offered as a private-pay service at a rate of $175 per 75-minute session. Unlike individual therapy, couples therapy focuses on the health of the relationship itself rather than the treatment of a specific mental health diagnosis. Offering this service privately allows treatment to remain focused on the needs and goals of the relationship while providing the flexibility for longer sessions and a more personalized approach to care.
If you have questions about fees or whether couples therapy may be a good fit for your situation, we encourage you to reach out for a consultation.
What if I/my partner has a hard time opening up?
This is very common, and it’s something we work through together. Therapy moves at a pace that feels manageable, helping each partner feel safe enough to begin sharing more over time.
How is information shared in couples therapy?
Couples therapy is a shared space, and the focus is on understanding what’s happening between you—not placing blame or choosing sides. We do not keep secrets within the therapy process. If something is shared with us outside of session, we use clinical judgment to determine how and when it would be most helpful to bring it into the work, and we encourage partners to share important concerns directly in session when possible. The goal is to support openness, safety, and trust within the relationship.
